photo of David Wermuth at work David Wermuth enjoys working with his hands, the challenge of design, the sound of a plane gliding across a piece of wood, and watching the beauty of the wood appear while applying the finish. He studied woodworking in Bennington, Vermont at the Kirby Studio and has been working with wood since 1978. All of David’s pieces have at least 6 coats of Pro-fin and a final coat of min wax.

David says:
I find my greatest pleasure in doing simple things - going for walks in the woods, watching a hawk fly overhead, seeing my dog run across the field. I strive for honesty and gentleness in my life and my relations with all things.

As a woodworker, I respect wood and try to draw out its beauty and meaning. I use whatever techniques are called for, but try to emphasize the use of hand tools. When a sharp plane sings across the wood I know I’m in tune with the wood through that plane.

A lot of myself goes into each and every piece of furniture I make. my work has a quiet dignity that blends into your life. I think you will agree.

I also do a production line of boxes and cutting boards which is a body of work designed with the same woodworking standards I am known for, yet more production-oriented for affordability.
